ASD and ADHD Specialist
Michelle holds a BA Hons in Drama, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, and a Master's degree in Special and Inclusive Education with Distinction, with modules covering autism and ADHD and a thesis focused on autism spectrum disorders. With over a decade in education, including teaching iGCSE Drama, specialist SEN roles and case management, she founded SLEducation to combine drama and special education: a programme where social, life and executive function skills are practised in real-life situations, through improvisation.
For individuals with ASD, memorising fixed responses breaks down the moment a conversation goes somewhere unexpected — it can cause panic, make it harder to spot social risk, and leave people feeling disconnected from their authentic selves.
Improvisation works differently. Used well, it builds genuine, flexible skills in a comfortable, supportive environment — skills that reduce social anxiety, support workplace readiness, and transfer to real relationships, not just the situations already rehearsed.
SLEducation pairs CBT-informed, evidence-based strategies with this improvisation-based practice: explicit teaching of the reasoning behind a skill or social convention, followed by live practice that actually builds it. Every session stays politically and religiously neutral — the focus is purely on skill development.
For ADHD, the same approach is used to practise the Stop-Think strategy, first in made-up scenes and then in replays of real situations. Read more about my ADHD approach.
